The Port of Chehalis is located in Lewis County, Washington halfway between Seattle, Washington and Portland, Oregon by a distance of 85 miles north and south via Interstate 5 to each. The Port's development activities are taking place in the Chehalis Industrial Park immediately south of the City of Chehalis limits and on the east side of Interstate 5.
The Port of Chehalis property is situated near all of the important transportation networks serving the west coast. It is adjacent to Interstate 5, the main north-south Pacific Coast interstate, and is served by two Interstate 5 interchanges, with a third interchange under design.
The property is 9 miles from State Route 12, the only year-round route east over the Cascades north of the Columbia River and south of Seattle. In addition, rail service by Burlington Northern, Union Pacific and Amtrak connect the area to all major US cities. Portland International Airport is 80 miles south of Chehalis via Interstate 5. The Port of Chehalis is within a 60 mile radius of multiple deep water ports offering containerized shipping and other services, including the Ports of Tacoma, Olympia, Longview, Vancouver, Kalama and more.
The twin cities of Chehalis and Centralia are the most populated areas of Lewis County with a combined population of 68,600. Chehalis is the county seat. Lewis County is the oldest county in the State of Washington and offers a beautiful rural setting with multiple natural amenities including mountains, lakes and streams. At the same time, Lewis County offers a location on Interstate 5 ideal for industry. Lewis County is served by Centralia College, Providence Hospital, Centralia Outlet Malls, numerous antique malls and shops, and multiple historic residential and commercial districts. The Chehalis School District provides excellent educational and extra curriculum activities to area youth.
Lewis County enjoys a moderate climate. The average temperature in 1997 was 41.8 minimum and 61.2 maximum. The precipitation in 1997 was 46.71 inches. This climate is ideal for year-round construction and other activities.
